Determining How Much Wine Is Needed For A Party

With the holiday season in full swing most wine enthusiasts are planning on hosting at least one party in their home for family and friends. For many of these hosts the decision on just how much wine to buy for the event is a tough one to make. Luckily there are some good guidelines on how much should be available to keep those Zinfandel Wine Glasses full throughout the gathering.

For a two hour party a host needs to figure about 3 glasses of wine per guest at the typical five ounce serving size. With five glasses of this size in a regular sized bottle of wine simply multiply the guests list by three and then divide by five to determine how much to buy for the party.

One thing to also consider when purchasing wine for a party is many retailers will offer case discounts. Even if you do not need all of the wine for the gathering the savings is worth it and you will have extra wine case you need it or just for future use in your wine rack.

Nothing Says Thanksgiving Like Wine And Pumpkin Pie

One of the classic tastes of the Thanksgiving holiday is pumpkin and for many families the meal is not complete until a slice of pumpkin pie is served. It does not matter how full you are the meal is just not over until this sweet and spicy treat is enjoyed. To really experience pumpkin pie a carefully paired wine will bring out the spices that go into making this dessert one of the classics of the holiday.

When most wines are picked out that will be served with dessert and sweet wine is selected to accompany the sweet dish. But for pumpkin pie the draw of this pie is not so much the sweet as the spice that includes nutmeg and cinnamon wrapped up in a creamy package. So when selecting wine do not look for sweet but instead search for spice that will accompany and augment these flavors.

While many choose to go with a sherry to serve with their pumpkin pie others want something a little more unique. A good idea is to ask your sommelier for a wine that has hints of cinnamon or rose that is not too sweet. These will be the perfect accompaniment to your dessert this holiday and would make a great gift to the host if you are just a guest. Bring the bottle along with a Silver Plated Bottle Opener to show your thanks for being invited.

It Is Beaujolais Nouveau Time Again

Back in 1985 a marketing plan was created that gave a specific release date for Beaujolais Nouveau wine so that everyone could celebrate the harvest at one time. So on the eve of the third Thursday in November the newly created wine for that year hits the shelves in stores around the world.

Beaujolais Nouveau is an un-aged wine from the southernmost part of the Burgundy region in France. While both red and white wines come from Beaujolais it is the red that comes from the unique gamay grape that has made the area famous. Since it is consumed within weeks of being harvested and pressed this wine is full of simple flavor that goes well with the holiday season.

Many feel that DuBoeuf is one of the best producers of this wine making it an ideal pairing with the festive foods that are served at gatherings this time of year. Buy a bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau for yourself and also buy it for the wine enthusiast on your holiday list. It makes the perfect filler for a Personalized Wine Box for the host or just under the tree.

Just Another Health Reason To Drink Red Wine

The popularity of wine has been on a steady increase for quite some time with one of the top reasons many consumers giving is their health. Many studies have shown that wines, and especially the reds, are full of healthy compounds that can help our bodies in many ways when consumed in moderation.

A new study from Vienna is bringing yet another good reason to enjoy a glass of red wine a day for many who suffer from Type 2 diabetes. Research has shown that the antioxidants found in red wine can be just as effective as drugs in helping control the symptoms of diabetes. The polyphenols have shown to be just as effective as the major drug rosiglitazone in treating diabetes.

While no patient should take matters into their own hands and consume only red wine without consulting their physician, it can be an effective way to augment treatment. Just as with anything patients with Type 2 diabetes should consult their doctor and remember that the study shows that the wine must be consumed in moderation in order to be effective and healthy for you.

For those who cope with Type 2 diabetes red wine can be an enjoyable way to improve your health. This can be a real gift, and for other wine gifts such as Prairie Wine by Will Bullas check out all the wine accessories at Rhino Wine Gear.

Allergen Free Wine May Be Coming Soon

For some wine enthusiast the idea of someone being allergic to wine seems like a crazy idea. But for roughly eight percent of people worldwide drinking wine can bring on an allergic reaction. This reaction can include headaches, skin rashes, stuffy nose and more. While part of these reactions are from sulfates that wineries add to their vinos in the winemaking process, but the other triggers are a mystery.

Researcher, Giuseppe Palmisano, has been studying the glycoproteins that  are within wine to try and isolate the cause of these allergies. He has found that in one Italian Chardonnay there are as many as 28 of these glycoproteins that have the same cell structure as many known allergens.

By isolating these glycoproteins maybe one day winemakers will be able to  make wines that are free of these materials. This would allow more people to raise a glass of fine wine with friends to toast a holiday or special event, or just enjoy a great tasting wine.

Until then the best gift that those who suffer from these wine allergies can receive is not a bottle of well crafted wine but instead wine art such as Cold Duck by Will Bullas.

Use The Right Wine Glasses For Thanksgiving

Many hosts spend a considerable amount of time preparing for the Thanksgiving meal they will serve their guests each year. With every little detail on each dish carefully planned out and prepared every host wants the day to be perfect. Even the wine is carefully selected to match the food so that the flavor of both complements each other for an enhanced taste experience.

But some hosts forget to consider the wine glasses in which they will be serving their vino in along with that meal. Wine glasses are more than just tall glasses with large bowls that you pour favorite wine into. Many glasses are specially designed for a particular type of wine and is shaped to not only present it perfectly but allow swirling of the liquid while also allowing it to flow out in a particular way.

Many of the bowls on these specialty vessels like Bordeaux Wine Glasses are made in a particular shape so when drank from the wine will hit a particular portion of the tongue. This ensures that the palate will taste the wine as it was intended to be so all the characteristics can be detected.

When serving your wine this Thanksgiving take the time to ensure that this part of your meal will be perfect just like the food itself.

Paring Wine With Thanksgiving Foods Can Be Challenging

While for the most part, the foods served on the typical Thanksgiving table are the same, the small variations by each cook can make paring it with the ideal wine challenging. Some choose to stick to a more traditional taste while others enjoy adding unique spices and flavors to their dishes. These variations may be small but the distinct flavors that come from them all will need a separate wine for the ideal paring.

For those who serve the food in a series of courses serving different wines with each course is fairly easy and makes wine paring simple. It is as easy as bringing home a bottle of wine in your Escape Wine Tote that will go well with each course. But for those who serve a buffet style of Thanksgiving meal the variety of dishes can make it hard to find the right wine.

A good rule of thumb is to make sure the wine you serve is sweeter than the food. So if you tend to make food especially sweet look for New World varieties that are known for having this trait. For cooks who tend to make spicy foods, this sweetness will not be as needed to create the ideal paring.
